Hi,

I’m Janette Chu

A young woman with long dark hair, smiling, standing outdoors in front of a green bush, wearing a sleeveless striped dress with buttons and a waist tie.

In everything I do, I hold onto this truth: every relationship has the capacity to grow, repair, and change for the better.

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in Ontario, Canada, with a deep belief in the power of secure relationships to transform our lives. My work is grounded not just in research and training, but in lived experience.

I know what it’s like to long for connection while fearing abandonment. For years, I was caught in anxious patterns—overthinking, walking on eggshells during conflict, and shrinking myself to maintain harmony. I was the “fixer,” constantly anticipating others’ needs while silencing my own — wondering if I was “too much” or somehow “not enough.”

In my late 20s, I married my long-time partner, expecting our relationship to be everything I dreamed of. But the early years of marriage were filled with hardship. We were different in fundamental ways, and conflict left me feeling alone, heartbroken, and questioning our future. On top of that, unresolved pain from my family of origin began to surface, overwhelming me.

Through therapy and honest conversations, we began to face what was broken—together. We learned to speak vulnerably about our needs, our fears, and our histories. I did the inner work to confront childhood wounds and rebuild strained family connections. Slowly, the walls came down, and trust grew.

It was messy and deeply human. But over time, our relationship became stronger, more grounded, and more resilient in the face of life’s challenges.

Today, I bring that same blend of clinical insight and human tenderness to the podcast—and to every session with my clients. I’m not here to offer perfection. I’m here to walk with you through the real, raw, and sacred work of healing your relationships—from the inside out.

My Therapeutic Approach

As a Registered Psychotherapist, I take an integrative and trauma-informed approach to therapy, recognizing that no two people—or relationships—are exactly alike.

The work we do together is shaped by your unique needs, strengths, and goals. I draw from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities to offer support that is both compassionate and effective.

All of my work is grounded in attachment science and a trauma-informed lens. I pay close attention to how early relational experiences shape your nervous system, emotional responses, and current relationship patterns.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, trust issues, emotional dysregulation, or relational trauma, I create a space where safety, empathy, and agency are prioritized. You will never be pushed to go faster than your nervous system is ready to go.

Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all treatment plan, I tailor each session to reflect your story, your pace, and your goals. Whether you’re navigating relational disconnection, trauma, identity exploration, or emotional overwhelm, I offer an integrated approach that blends insight, strategy, and deep presence.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you feel more connected—to yourself, to others, and to what truly matters. Together, we’ll create space for healing, growth, and meaningful change.

Here’s a closer look at the approaches I use:

  • EFT is a powerful, evidence-based model rooted in attachment theory. It helps individuals, couples, and families understand the emotional patterns and attachment needs driving their distress. In EFT, we identify the negative cycles that keep you feeling stuck—like conflict, withdrawal, or fear of rejection—and work to shift them toward patterns of connection, responsiveness, and emotional safety. EFT is particularly effective for couples who want to heal after conflict, betrayal, or emotional distance, and it’s a cornerstone of how I support relationship repair.

  • IFS is a compassionate, insight-oriented therapy that views the mind as made up of different “parts”—each with its own emotions, needs, and history. We all have parts that protect us, parts that carry pain, and a core Self that holds clarity, calm, and wisdom. In IFS work, I help clients build relationships with these internal parts so that healing can take place from the inside out. This approach is especially helpful for trauma recovery, identity work, and building self-compassion.

  • EMDR is a research-backed modality used to process and integrate unresolved trauma, negative core beliefs, and distressing life events. Using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping), EMDR activates the brain's natural healing process to reduce the emotional intensity of painful memories. It’s an effective treatment for PTSD, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and overwhelming emotional experiences that feel “stuck.” I use EMDR in a gentle, client-centered way to help you move toward deeper healing and resolution.

  • DBT is a structured therapy designed to help clients regulate intense emotions, navigate interpersonal conflict, and develop distress tolerance. I integrate DBT skills—such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance—into sessions when clients are seeking tools to manage overwhelm, impulsivity, or reactivity. These skills offer a foundation for navigating life’s challenges with more calm, clarity, and intention.

  • Sometimes clients don’t need to dive deep into their past—they’re looking for practical support in the here and now. Solution-Focused Therapy helps you identify what’s working, clarify your goals, and take small, meaningful steps forward. It’s a strength-based approach that supports change by building on your existing resources and capacities. I often integrate SFT when clients feel stuck and are seeking short-term, action-oriented support.
